Let's talk

Next impact of BigData on society!

Are there people who heard once about BigData? No doubt, 50% of those think that its tons of formulas, math, very complicated and non-specialist will never get a chance to find out where it might be useful.

Let’s clear the air and explore in simple words what’s BigData.

2.7 Zettabytes =(2.7 billion terabytes) of data exist in the digital universe today.

Fortunately, all these data oceans are not useless only vice versa and here’s the list of facts that prove it.

Marketing:

Everybody knows Twitter and how to use it. Did you know that your posts are tracked? Every day millions of people share their thoughts & ideas in short publications. How can we take advantage of it?

It’s a lot of gathered & analyzed data that helps to predict Fast Furious or any other film’s earnings in the USA or how good/bad new marketing campaign of Apple/President worked this year.

Despite the fact that all posts are public DataSift company signed a contract with Twitter in order to use the data (everything that was ever published).

Everybody can use their product and make a research on the certain subject. For instance, how many times the word “bad traffic” was mentioned in a certain location & time. As a result, you’ll know realistic statistics on where you’ll be stuck for hours during your trip.

Government:

In today’s fast-moving world data is very expensive. It’s known that people went crazy with Pokemon Go game. Kids and even adults did funny things in order to catch a new pokemon. Owners of this game did earn money for the rest of their life but what happened to the data, users (players) gathered all these time. Was it gathered at all?

It’s not just number of pokemons someone caught!

BigData technology allows us to transfer data gathered by every user who once played Pokemon Go into a google map. Not a simple map that we use on a daily basis but the map that shows places where kids can’t enter, places hidden by the government incl. (buildings guarded by militaries such as Pentagon, military base or secret object we don’t even know about), places where you can be robbed so that nobody risked to walk with a smartphone (bad neighbourhoodі with a high level of criminality).

Healthcare:

We all know this feeling when you have a face-to-face meeting with your doctor regarding your health condition. Nowadays we don’t even have to leave the house in order to make a full body diagnostic and receive a feedback from the doctor.

IOT is rapidly growing in the healthcare field. Wearables can gather data such as glucose level, blood pressure and even electrocardiograms. It allows doctors to monitor the condition of the patient remotely and what is more important in real time.

Plus, BigData technology is also doing all the analysis and may predict the condition of the patient. Such an approach allows to prevent some serious deterioration of the disease before it’s too late.

Questions:

2013 was a year when Edward Snowden showed the whole world that there is no privacy when it comes to people who use the internet (social media, messengers etc) on a regular basis. Now imagine that government uses BigData technology in order to track your activity. It’s not just photos or private messages, progressive technology answers all questions such as what type of movies you like, your plans on future, what types of people are you mostly dealing with and even whether you are about to commit a crime!

All we can do is just trust our government and believe in privacy. As for me, absolute privacy doesn’t exist at all, it’s just a number of people who have access.

Conclusion:

Obviously, BigData is a huge source of power and it’s only a matter of time when people realize how to fully use it.

Remember the time when everyone was 100% positive that once we have easy access to the internet, everyone would use it as a platform for self-improvement. Turns out it’s not that easy)
